Hi! As we step into the second month of 2025, it's the perfect time to check in on our progress and refine our goals.

How are you feeling about the year so far?

My turn:

Three months ago, I embraced this new adventure as a full-time entrepreneur.

During my trip to Phoenix this week, I was asked by a friend and client if this transition was scary. My response—with a smile—was "Of course." But that smile reflected my excitement and confidence, not just in what I've built so far but also in my ability to navigate what comes next.

I know I don't have all the answers and I'm confident each step in the journey will bring about another perspective shift.

This shift from certainty to exploration wasn't easy, but it's been worth it thus far.

Turning Insights into Actions

Thankfully, through many failures and successes along the way, I've learned the power of focus and intention. Here’s how I translated these insights into concrete actions:

  1. From Customer-First Approach to Deep Engagement: Success in sales came when I shifted focus from my needs to my customers’ needs, fostering trust and commitment by genuinely caring and engaging deeply.

  2. Goal Visualization: By visually tracking my progress (using a simple whiteboard and marker), I kept my goals present and clear, which continuously fueled my drive.

These worked really well for me but I'm not one to sit still and rely on what works. I believe there's always room to learn and grow. I discovered OKR's a couple years back and it added a whole new dimension to goal setting and execution.

Understanding OKRs: More Than Just Goals

OKRs (Objectives and Key Results) were first developed at Intel and have been adopted by tech companies like Google to drive growth and innovation. They allow organizations and individuals to set challenging, ambitious goals with concrete, measurable outcomes.

Why OKRs Work:

  • Focus and Commit to Priorities: OKRs compel you to choose what's most important and focus efforts accordingly.
  • Align and Connect for Teamwork: When used in teams, OKRs ensure all members are moving in the same direction.
  • Track for Accountability: By setting specific metrics for success, OKRs make it easier to measure progress.
  • Stretch to Achieve More: They encourage setting goals that push boundaries, which can lead to extraordinary results.

Some behind the scenes of my Business OKRs for Q1:

  • Objective: Successfully launch & execute the 'With Intention' Coaching Cohort.

    • Key Result 1: Conduct a free public workshop with at least 20 attendees (Excited that we had 41 attend a couple weeks back!)
    • Key Result 2: Enroll at least 6 participants for the first cohort (Thrilled to share we have 12 in the first one!)
    • Key Result 3: Bring 2-3 thought leaders into the calls in a fireside chat style (Excited to be bringing guys like James Clear and Alan Stein into the mix!)
  • Objective: Establish a Formal Executive Coaching Practice.

    • Key Result 1: Officially launch and promote the practice on LinkedIn and website.
    • Key Result 2: Secure at least 3 long-term coaching clients by the end of Q1.
    • Key Result 3: Complete formal coaching certification to enhance service credibility.

Your turn:

How You Can Apply OKRs:

Now, let's translate this into your personal or professional life:

  • Objective: Define what you want to achieve this quarter. Keep it ambitious yet attainable. I recommend no more than 3 primary objectives.
  • Key Results: Break your objective into measurable steps. Use the SMART criteria to ensure each key result is:
    • Specific: What exactly do you want to accomplish?
    • Measurable: How will you track your progress?
    • Attainable: Is it realistic with the resources you have?
    • Relevant: Does it align with your broader goals?
    • Time-bound: When will you achieve this?
