Start With "Who"
What if the secret to profound change wasn’t discovering what you want to do, but understanding who you want to be?
Let’s explore how starting with 'Who' can redefine your path to personal growth and success.
While Simon Sinek urges us to 'Start with Why' to uncover our purpose, I propose a transformative shift: let's start with 'Who.'
Who do you want to be?
This question reaches beyond our roles or professions—it taps into the essence of our character and the core values we uphold.
Inspired by James Clear's identity-based habits, this approach isn't merely about setting goals—it's about embracing the traits of the person capable of achieving them.
Imagine striving to be more confident. What does confidence look like to you? Is it the ability to speak up boldly, or perhaps the quiet courage in facing challenges?
Or humility—does it manifest as allowing others to shine, or as a continuous pursuit of knowledge without seeking recognition?
This week, I invite you to define 'Who' you want to be:
- Choose Your Trait: Select a quality you admire and wish to embody.
- Visualize Your Hero: Think of someone who epitomizes this trait. This could be someone you know, a public figure, or even a fictional character.
- Act 'As If': Start small. What would your hero do in your shoes? How would they approach your daily tasks?
By focusing on 'who' rather than just 'why,' every decision becomes a stepping stone towards that identity.
This mindset can profoundly alter how we approach our goals and view our capabilities. I’m eager to hear about the 'Who' you choose and the transformations it brings to your life.
Together, let's embody the best versions of ourselves.
"Act as if what you do makes a difference. It does."
Reflecting on these words by William James, consider how the Identity Compass above can guide your journey.
Who do you truly aspire to be?
Let your decisions and actions align with this identity, transforming everyday choices into meaningful progress.
Until next time, keep moving forward with intention!
